Rosanna Toso, a distinguished member of the Toso family, played a pivotal role in the rich history of Murano Island, where the renowned Barovier Toso company was among the pioneers. Alongside her brothers, she dedicated her expertise to another esteemed family venture, "Fratelli Toso" (1854-1983), where she assumed the role of director from the mid-1970s until the company's dissolution in 1983. Following this chapter, Rosanna transitioned into the realm of light design, contributing her talents to the prestigious Leucos. One of her most acclaimed creations is the captivating "Idra" series from 1982, which manifested in various sizes and colors, gracing interiors as exquisite table lamps and sconces. The artistic technique employed in these masterpieces is known as Sommerso. This method intricately layers different glass sheets to achieve both thickness and a mesmerizing illusion of depth within the glass. Embedded within these layers are meticulously placed murrines, adding a touch of artistry that creates the visual illusion of a cascading waterfall, flowing seamlessly from the apex to the base of the globe.
